BBB scenario 1: Diagnosis of Intraventricular Haemorrhage

Role: You are the Specialist Neonatal Registrar

Setting: NICU, DGH

Talking to: Mrs. Smith, mum of 1-day old Louise

Task: Louise was born at 26 weeks gestation late last night, and is currently on the NICU on respiratory and cardiovascular support.
She is imminently awaiting transfer to the tertiary unit for further care.
Overnight, Louise had an admission cranial USS, which demonstrated bilateral grade 3 IVH.

 Mrs.Smith is keen to know the results of the Cranial USS. Please explain the results and answer any questions she may have.
